STYLISH LIVING: KIKA'S

Hello everyone!!! First and foremost I have to apologize for abandoning you this past few days. So it happens that last week was specially busy, by the time Friday came I was about to go crazy. Thankfully on Saturday I called my dear friend Kika and she invited me to tag along with her family to the beach. I had a very relaxed Saturday, we played domino (Kika and her family are Cubans so I was working on acquiring my Cuban citizenship), swam in the pool, had a fantastic lunch and then at night we watched a funny movie, it was simply put a delightful weekend with some of my favorite people.

My friend Kika is one of the most creative people I know, mainly because she's very sensitive to things happening around her, and of course she's amazingly talented. She's an outstanding artist, the best graphic designer, she even writes poetry once in a while whenever she feels inspired and just recently she's found a new passion of her own, decorating, to which she's really good at because she has impeccable taste and a mind of her own.

Yesterday when we got back from the beach we got to hang out around her apartment for a while and needless to say I decided to take advantage of that and took some pictures to share with you, I've been meaning to do it for a while now and yesterday was my one opportunity to do it, since we're both very busy women and sometimes we don't get to see each other that much.

In the end Kika herself took some pictures of me and I took some pictures of her lovely vivacious little girl Kiki. I hope you like them but most of all I hope you feel inspired.

Well guys, hope you loved them and found some inspiration.  Stay tuned for our next Stylish Living episode, I already have someone in mind, she's a client of mine, I went to her house just recently and fell in love with it, I'm sure you'll fall in live with it too.

Take care and have a wonderful stylish day!!!

IRENE

My dear friend Irene who know is also my client, came to me because she wanted me to help her style her wardrobe. We've been meaning to get together since november last year but for some reason we just kept postponing it. Finally on Saturday I had the privilege to go to her house, help her get rid of all the clutter, and do some outfit creating. We also did some shopping for key pieces that where missing in her closet, like say... a nice navy blue blazer, a pair of dark denim jeans she could wear both day and night, a feminine day dress she could wear for special occasions, a pair of dressy pants with a more modern cut, and of course the substitute of the sweatpants, in Irene's case, the substitute for her Boston t-shirt and loose jeans. We came up with some stylish options and Irene was very much satisfied with the end results. However we still have a pending shopping trip (of course!!!), there's still some key pieces we didn't have the chance to get this time like for example shoes, a couple of more accessories and colorful tops (and maybe another day dress that is slightly more casual than the one we bought right now).

One thing we didn't have time to work with right now is Irene's hair and make up, so I'm looking forward to helping her with that and finally showing you guys the end result.

Meanwhile here are some advances on Irene's wardrobe.

MEET IRENE

Irene had the biggest collection of jeans from decades past. Most of her jeans had quite a baggy fit on her so I told Irene that we needed to go find her a new pair of jeans that could showcase her nice legs and behind a little bit more.

Look what we found!!!

I'm sorry I chopped off Irene's head, I'm used to photographing only the outfit because most of my clients don't like me to photograph their faces, so I kind of forgot that Irene had given me full authorization to photograph her body and face. This outfit is actually one of my favorites, I think we're using it for the before and after photo shoot coming soon to you.

Getting rid of all the unnecessary clutter!!! More space in her closet for new stuff!!!

Dressy pants with button down shirts to go to work. I thought that Navy blue was much better than the too strong black.

Boot cut dark denim jeans. Look how nice she looks with her mariniére style cardigan and long pendant that helps to elongate her figure. Her legs also look longer.

Another casual chic look with her dark denim jeans. This time we tried to bring some color to the face with this wonderful scarf we bought at MNG.

The substitute of the BOSTON t-shirt and too loose flared jeans.

Et voilá!!! Now we only need to find Irene a nice pair of earrings and some bracelets to wear with her new sexy day dress. It could also be a nice statement necklace and bracelets (oh, and a clutch bag of course!!!) but I'm dubious about it because the necklace could break the elongated shape we already achieved with this nice v-neck cut.

So this is just a peek of what we did with Irene, stay tuned for Irene's before and after images!!!

MANLY CARDIGANS

This morning when I woke up first thing I did was make myself a cup of coffee and then sit down in front of my computer to check my e-mails and work on Style by Red. I noticed that ever since I started this blog I've seldom ever given guys any style or fashion advice, so today while I was browsing thru my faaaavorite menswear online website Mr Porter I was inspired by their new FIVE WAYS TO WEAR topic. Today it was all about cardigans which I was delighted to read because I love a man who knows how to wear a cardigan without looking like he's going golfing. So needless to say I was inspired to venture myself into manly outfit creating.

Here are my own 5 ways to wear a cardigan. Hope you like them and let me know if you have any favorites.

THE ORGANIZING MAVEN

Today while I was navigating the web for inspiration I came upon a really cute and informative blog about home decorating called Little Green Note Book http://littlegreennotebook.blogspot.com/ created by Jenny, a wife, mother and decorator. Apparently Jenny is also quite the organizing maven, in her blog I found some amazing images with incredible ideas on how to keep your home organized. I don't know if I've told you this before but I'm an organization freak!!! I'm the kind of person who likes to clean and organize on her free time!!! So when I saw this pictures I was left in awe with admiration.

Hope you feel inspired too.

Don't you feel like rushing to your kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, storage room or any other room and start some smart organizing? I know I do.

A KHAKI STORY

Hello everyone, good morning or good afternoon, I don't know, wherever you are I hope you're doing great!!!

A couple of days ago I shared with you a small article from nymag.com that featured one pair of khakis = five different looks from five different NY boutiques. I thought it was pretty interesting and was a bit inspired to go and create my own version of one pair of khakis = five different looks. However, this time I not only used the same pair of khakis, I also used the same handbag, shoes and sunglasses with different tops and accessories. The whole point of learning how to dress up is also being able to know how to maximize the things you have. If you're on a budget you want to buy one pair of shoes versatile enough to wear with most of your outfits, same goes for bags and sunglasses. If you're not on a budget, then by all means knock yourself out!!!

To create my version of one pair of khakis = five different looks I paid a visit to my favorite luxury online boutique net-a-porter and came up with five very interesting options. I named them as follows:

JACOBO + LEONEL

Today was a very interesting day and quite different from any other regular day of mine. I was invited to join the judge panel of a singing contest organized by McDonald's called "Voice of McDonald's". I was a little bit nervous because I know very little about music and I didn't want to make a fool of myself but then again I was invited to give my professional opinion on image and stage performance and so decided to leave fear at the door.

When I got there I was delighted to find out that a couple of friends of mine Jacobo and Leonel, who are members of a very famous Guatemalan band called Malacates, where also judges. Jacobo plays the trumpet (he's also a composer, teaches music, plays the piano, the guitar, he sings... he does everything) and Leonel plays the drums (I think he also plays the piano too because today he was telling me a story of how he's mother made him learn how to play the piano before he learned the drums). So needless to say I was in good company and obviously had fun.

During the day there where moments where we had to wait for other contestants to arrive, so while we had some free time I thought it would be a good idea to play a little game called CREATING OUTFITS (of course!!! what else, my favorite thing, specially men's outfits). This time I decided to give Jacobo and Leonel a virtual makeover!!! For that I visited my favorite online boutique for men Mr Porter http://www.mrporter.com/ and came up with an outfit for each one of them, always taking under consideration their own unique personality and fashion style. They're both really cool creative dudes so it was an easy and fun job to do. This is what we came up with during recess time. Hope you like it.

To learn more about Malacates visit their website http://www.malacates.com/

JACOBO'S OUTFIT

LEONEL'S OUTFIT

MALACATES

Leonel would be the cool dude with the red pants and hat and Jacobo is the other cool dude holding the trumpet. What do you think? Did I do a good job?

Have a lovely evening everyone, until next!!!

Don't miss out on my next post. I got inspired with the nymag.com khaki article and decided to create some virtual outfits of my own, so stay tuned!!!

Here are this week's looks for "Style Sessions".
