PHOTO SHOOT FOR LOOK MAGAZINE

I have some good news. Today I got my picture taken for a local women's magazine (all created by women) called LOOK MAGAZINE with whom I'm starting a collaboration. I sort of rearranged some things in my room and decided I wanted to have my picture taken sitting down on my grandfathers chair, which I completely renovated to give it a more modern feel. I also wanted to create an interesting contrast of colors between my chair and my outfit and so I decided to wear my Rag & Bone red jeggings, a stripped shirt I bought yesterday at Zara on DISCOUNT!!!, my newly acquired Massimo Dutti wedges also bought them on SALE!!! Love it!!! My mother's 80's vintage earrings, MNG neon scarf, Lauren G Adams statement ring and my grandmothers antique watch.  I can't wait to show you the pictures Monica took of me. Meanwhile I'm sharing some I took before the shoot.

If you're interested on the magazine, here's their website. I think right now it's under construction but soon you'll even be able to download the magazine from the website.

Have a lovely day everyone!!!

PRE-FALL 2012: OVERSIZED AND BOXY

Today I was taking a look at some of this year's pre-fall collections and realized that the must have coat is probably going to be boxy, oversized and perhaps even resembling a huge boyfriend blazer. Silhouettes in general are mostly rectangular but there's a noticeable trend in jackets and coats, they seem to be extremely boxy and oversized. Take a look at some of the designers who included them in their collections.

What do you think? Do you like them or do you prefer a more figure flattering one?

TREND: CAMERA BAGS

When my father past away I got to keep his collection of vintage cameras and camera bags. The cameras of course I have them as part of my room decor and the camera bags some of them I use them as room decor as well, but some of them I use them as shoulder bags, mostly to go out at night cause they look funky and the are comfortable to carry across the body. Some people would criticize me for wearing them saying they looked ugly but I didn't care I thought they where cool. Lately I've noticed that some designers (specially America's latest wonder boys: Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler and 3.1 Phillip Lim) have created their own versions of fashionable camera bags but for pure every day use. So I guess I wasn't that far away from being fashion forward and cool.

Take a look at this images. Of course my camera bags are not as stylish as the designer ones but they still do the job.

CHAMBRAY SHIRTS: A WARDROBE STAPLE

A chambray shirt is most definitely a timeless wardrobe staple and one of the most versatile pieces you can own. Cambric or chambray is a plain weave, lightweight cotton cloth that is used as a fabric for lace and needlework. It is very similar to lightweight denim. The chambray shirt was very famous in 1980's and 1990's in the casual wear section and was inspired by workmen. Now the chambray shirt is back and it's worn by both men and women. The men's chambray shirt has always been a popular statement, but the women's version has gained a lot of popularity lately. The chambray shirt for women come in two versions:  the baggy, boyfriend trend and the denim trend.

I own two of them a light one and a more darker one and I prefer a more fitted style than the oversized or baggy one. Baggy styles are best worn with leggings or skinny jeans.  I wear mine with white skinny jeans, black skinny jeans, red skinny jeans, skirts in neutral tones and sometimes I even pull the denim on denim look which I looove.

If you're thinking about getting yourself a chambray shirt to wear this season, here are 3 stylish ways to do it. Stay tuned because later this afternoon I'll be posting more ideas on how to wear them, you're going to like them.

SEQUINS: INSPIRATION FOR HOW TO WEAR THEM

Ok, so this sequins post has a part II. Before posting part I this morning, I navigated the web for endless hours in search for images that would inspire me. At first I didn't think of sharing them with you but then I thought: Why not? I have to give thank's to other amazing fashion blogs like The Sartorialist, Garance Doré and Coco + Kelly for such amazing images. I highly recommend that you visit their blogs as well, they are my daily source of inspiration, since I live in Guatemala and sometimes I can only but dream about being where they are: NY, Milan, Paris... hahaha soon!!! Soon I'll have a fashion trip and take all sorts of amazing pictures.

Enjoy this images. I hope you feel as inspired as I did. Now I just need to go and buy myself all sorts of sequined garments since I only own a jacket that my best friend Kika gave to me for my birthday from her own BECCA AMARO collection. I'll show a picture soon.

SEQUINS: HOW TO WEAR THEM DURING THE DAYTIME

We usually relate sequins with the holiday season and festivities only. The good news is you can still wear those harem style sequined pants after new years. Sequins are a fun thing to wear if done correctly. The other good news is you can also wear them during the daytime but you do need to take under serious consideration one very important factor: your lifestyle. If you're a lawyer or an investment banker who requires a strict conservative dress code, you can't show up at the office wearing your new DKNY sequined pencil skirt, leave that for cocktail hour.

So, in order to guide you a little bit into the wonderful world of sequins I created a list of guidelines for you to follow. I call them guidelines instead of rules because...well... there are no rules in fashion.

1. Stick to one sequined item per outfit.
2. When wearing sequins go minimal on the accessories.
3. Balance is the key. Pair sequined pieces with other wardrobe staples like jeans, a blazer, a white button down shirt...
4. Sequined pieces look best when paired with neutral colors. Cream, black and grey are always good options.
5. Keep your make up simple unless it's halloween.
6. Stay clear from sequined shoes, regardless of the designer, they often come off looking cheap.
7. If wearing sequins thru clothing is not your thing why not try doing it thru accessories, like say... a scarf, a clutch bag or belt.
8. Don't be afraid of color. Try a sequined item in a bright hue or add a pop of color elsewhere in the outfit.
9. Wear them with cozy or matte fabrics such as knit, denim, suede, non-sheen velvet or heavy cotton.
10. Do wear them with pride. Confidence is key in wearing a sequined outfit.

Here are 5 outfit ideas you can try, enjoy them!!! although you may find some of them a little bit too eclectic but...that's just my style.

DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND

Diamonds are a girl's best friend but what if you can't afford them just quite yet? You need to find yourself another best friend one that's just as wonderful but much more affordable. Ah yes! the wonderful world of costume jewelry, what would us girls do without it!

On tuesday I did a photo shoot for my friend Cristina Santos who owns C'Santos where she sells the most wonderful high end costume jewelry pieces you've seen (and some real diamonds too in case you where wondering). My favorite ones, of course, are the vintage looking ones. Here are some of the pictures I took.

By the way, if you looooove everything you see, you can find it at C'Santos 13 calle A 7-19 Zona 10 Plaza Tiffany. And if you feel like it, you can also visit their website www.csantos.com or contact them via e-mail at csantos@csantos.com

Hope you like everything as much as I do.
