THE CAT'S MEOW

Since I'm not an American I had never before in my life heard the term "The Cat's Meow" until one day my dear friend Gaby who's amazing and had the most gorgeous wedding in California told me: Maria, everyone at the wedding thought you where the cat's meow!!! Hahaha that's the coolest thing anyone has ever said to me!!! Truth be told, I asked her if I had done any embarrassing things on her wedding because of course I got a little bit too excited about those fabulous cocktails with liquid nitrogen in them and well had a bit too many for my own good. That night I ended up performing salsa with her Mexican gay wedding decorator and then the bus boy who was Russian proposed to me.  He got all excited when I told him I was from Guatemala. He told me he was looking for a pure breed Latina girl not a born in the U.S.A one. What was I thinking!!! I've should've said yes!!! Lol!!! I missed my one opportunity to fulfill my American dream!!! Oh wait... he was Russian, I would've probably ended up being deported to some ass cold place in Russia drinking vodka all day to forget my own life's miseries.

Anyhow, why did I even start to tell you this story? It's probably all the drugs I'm having for this horrible flu I ahve, I mean have. Oh yes, I remember now!!! The other day I saw this fantastic image in some really cool facebook page called Street Styles and got so inspired that I decided to make a post about how to wear leopard print shorts. Now this shorts really are the cat's meow!!!

You must be thinking: María Cristina adds a chambray shirt to everything, and that would be correct. You are 100% right, I  do!!! I'm serious, a chambray shirt is the one thing everyone both men and women should have in their closets, it goes with absolutely everything and it always saves the day. Add little bits of color to your outfit with beautiful accessories like this Etro bracelet and Marni ring or you could just add a shit load of friendship bracelets (wait...did I just say shit loads? I'm sorry, it must be the drugs, by now I'm already hallucinating, bare with me, I'm sick!!!).

Well guys, I would love to show you more options but I feel like fainting right now so I'm just gonna go lay down.

Until next!!! Toodles!!!

ROSA CLARÁ: INTIMATE AFTERNOON WEDDING

Admit it (specially if you where born in the late 70's), when you where a little girl you dreamed about a royal-esque wedding with like 1,000 guests, a puffy dress that resembles the one that Lady Diana wore on her wedding day, and of course prince charming. Now that you have grown and matured a little bit more and you have found your own prince charming, you've started to doubt your childhood dreams (perhaps those puffy sleeves where not a good idea in the first place) and realized that the only thing you want is to be surrounded by the people you love the most (and of course a Rosa Clará dress for you and your bridesmaids). You've decided that you want to have an intimate afternoon wedding with a vintage eclectic vibe, look absolutely stunning in your Rosa Clará dress, dance non stop to a jazz band with your now hubbie, and treat your 150 guests to the best there is. what more could a girl want?

Here are some details of your now dream wedding...

THE VENUE

Can you believe this place? It's absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the eclectic vibe but what I love the most is that it looks absolutely beautiful and it doesn't have any flowers whatsoever.

ONE BITE WONDERS

Part of setting yourself aside from the crowd is treating your guests to the most exquisite one bite wonders. No piggies in a blanket at your wedding!!!

THE CAKE

You're not the type of girl who wants to get her picture taken cutting the cake, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it it's just not your style. Instead you decided to go for a pistachio cake, lemon, and milk crumb truffles croquembouche. Delicious!!! The best part is that anybody who wants one can just grab it.

THE BAND

You'd rather be struck twice by lightning before dancing the Macarena at our wedding. Instead of hiring your regular band you decided to go for a vintage jazz band that will transport your guests back in time with it's hot jazz, early blues, bebop and bossa nova tunes.

THE BRIDESMAIDS

Now don't be mean. Why make your best friends look awful in some hideous lime green bridesmaid dress with a huge bow on the front when they can all look wonderful in an elegant and sophisticated Rosa Clará dress?

YOUR MOTHER

The previous applies to your mother as well. She has been dieting for a whole year and finally she was able to loose 5 pounds. All those efforts are only worthy of Rosa Clará. It's your wedding day everybody deserves to look their best (even your mother in law).

Last but not least...

THE DRESS!!!

No more puffy sleeves for you, thank God your style personality has evolved thru the years. Your choice of dress? Something simple but at the same time exquisite and elegant. The answer to what you're looking for is obviously the Amaya dress by Rosa Clará 2012 collection.

with Rosa Clará your guaranteed to have a day to remember!!! Let me know what your dream wedding is all about.

PRINTED SHORTS

Good morning everyone!!! Today I'm as sick as a dog!!! I deserve it for behaving like a total spring breaker this past week. I don't know what came over me, seriously!!! I went out Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Needless to say yesterday I was a cadaver. I didn't want to admit it but I'm too old for this.

Since I'm half dead my mind is not functioning at it's full capacity, however I still managed to come up with something interesting for you. Since lately I've been a little bit obsessed with shorts (and pastels, and neons, and...) I decided that today I wanted to show you three ways you could wear printed shorts this season.

Here they are, hope you like it.

Wear them with a classic neutral top like a chambray shirt or even a white linen button down shirt. Keep the rest of the outfit simple, let the sorts be the center of attention.

Mix them up with other prints. A stripped top gives this outfit a classic with a twist look for someone with a more creative personality. When mixing prints always remember that they need to relate to one another in some way or another, and always try playing with scale and proportions. A yellow shoulder bag? why not, it adds brightness and visual interest to your outfit.

Long over short. Sometimes during spring it can get a little chilly. Try playing with proportions to make your outfit more interesting by wearing a long spring coat over your shorts. You can keep your accessories neutral and matchy matchy for a more classic polished look.

MY MIND IS BLANK

Today my mind is completely blank! I can't seem to concentrate on anything! Ahhhhhh! Truth be told, last night my friends from the network and I organized a little cooking get together to celebrate the upcoming wedding of our friends Jose and Andrea. María Reneé if you're reading this I HATE YOU! This is the last time I hang out with you! What started like an innocent cooking night ended up being a scene from Katy Perry's "Las Friday Night" video lol! Ok, maaaaaybe not thaaaaat crazy! Specially because it was only three of us (Renee, Majo and I) and the future couple, very VIP (truth is everyone else canceled), but we still managed to drive the chefs crazy. How can you explain a dancing pole in the middle of a kitchen lol! That's what I call entrepreneur spirit. Anyhow, I managed to find one decent photo to share with you. Meanwhile, excuse my temporary stupidity, I promise good material on Monday, or even before that. Tomorrow is my friends wedding so I'll probably be busy with that but Sunday I'll sit down and share some love with you.

Have a lovely weekend Y'aaaaaal!

María Reneé, even though I hate you right now (of course I don't lol!) I have to admit we did have a blast, soooo...cheers to that!

This is me right now.

MY NEON PINK T-SHIRT

Neon pink is also one of this seasons sexiest trends along with cropped tops, leather shorts and little white dresses with plunging V- necklines. I went to J.Crew while I was in Miami and they have all sorts of wonderful things in neon pink including a pair of super sexy shorts that I regret so much not buying, instead I got myself a neon t-shirt which I love but now I WANT THE SHORTS TOO!!! hahaha I saw a girl wearing them with a navy silk button down shirt, let me tell you it looked amazingly sexy.

Here's my outfit of the day.

DO I LOOK EXECUTIVE ENOUGH TO YOU?

Today I'm invited to speak at a women's odontologist symposium. Of course I had to bring out my executiveness to shine!!!  For that I decided to wear my SPORTMAX dress that I bought in Max Mara  at Bal Harbour Shops some 4 years ago. I loooove the dress, it's absolutely fantastic!!! It's italian and it fits like a glove. Shoes? Valentino.

Wish me luck!!! Do you like my executive look? This is as executive as I get.

SEXY LEATHER SHORTS

Cropped tops is one of this seasons sexiest trends but another really sexy one is leather shorts (really short ones, not bermuda style). Like I said on my previews post about cropped tops, I'm on a mission to achieve summer appropriate physique lol!!! I'm on the elliptical machine everyday for a whole hour on level 10, I look like a fountain sweating my life away. Now I'm gonna have to go and myself a pair of sexy leather shorts to flaunt my new sexy legs but I'm gonna have to travel someplace to do it because here in Guatemala is forbidden to show anything. Just like I'm always fantasizing about going to Brazil only to wear a thong lol!!! Or a reeeeeeally tiny bikini that almost looks like a thong, that's sexier MIAU!!!

Anyhow...enough thinking about Brazil and tiny bikinis!!! Here are some ideas on how to wear your sexy leather shorts.

Tell me, what's your style personality? is it hipster? monochromatic? or party like a rock star?

BLUE JUMPSUIT AND NEON SCARF

Today I'm going to my friend Ichigo Tock fashion show. He's an incredible creative person and a hard worker (and a party animal). He's line is called HE-BI and he also has an online fashion magazine called SIETE MAG, both of which are really cool. Here's a link to the magazine, take a look:

After the show I'm going out to dinner with my friend Alexandra whom I haven't seen in a very long time, so sure enough we have a lot of catching up to do.

Here's my outfit for today's events.

JUMPSUIT: Anthropologie
WEDGES: Massimo Dutti
NEON SCARF: Mango
NEON PENDANT: Anthropologie

If it gets a little chilly I'll just throw on my papaya neon cardigan. It's all about the neons!!! So sorry I noticed a bit too late I had cut my feet on every photo, how intelligent of me!!! Oh well.

SHOW THOSE ABS

Show those abs is one of this seasons hottest trends. Howeeeeever, you do need to know how to do it in style and with good taste. It's really all about showing just a peak of your abs you don't have to go and bare it all like you're at the beach or the gym. Do remember that you need to be slightly fit to carry this trend successfully. I'm not saying that you need to have abs of steel but you do need to have  firm abdominals.

My favorite way to wear a cropped top is with skirts. Here are two ways you could wear a cropped top. One for day and one for the evening.

CASUAL DAY OUTFIT

A soft midi skirt with sandals is the perfect to wear cropped top with during the day for a casual summer look. Add some color with a raffia tote bag, nothing yells out summer more than that. Match at least two of your accessories, in this case bag and bracelets and go for a light denim jacket in case it gets a little chilly.

EVENING

For the evening exchange the midi skirt for a more elegant silk-blend georgette knee length skirt, high heel sandals, a clutch in a bright summer color, statement earrings and a eye catching cuff.

Et voilá!!! I'm dying to get one of this looks, I've been working out a lot to get my figure ready for summer. Wish me luck and good luck to you too!!!

MEMORY LANE

I'm gonna take a little trip down memory lane. I don't usually like doing this because I HATE nostalgia but in this case remembering my old office doesn't bring me that many sad memories, except for the fact that sometimes I wish I hadn't spend so much money in it, specially because I only had it for 4 or 6 months. When I began doing image consulting it was pretty hard to find clients and so when the time came to pay the rent I felt like shooting myself. So much hard work just to pay the freakin rent!!!  Anyhow, after that I decided I didn't need an office since I was always on the move with work and clients. Sure enough I closed it. It was a tough decision to make because I had put my heart and soul in that office but one of my life's number one motto is that you should NEVER get attached to ANYTHING or ANYONE.

Before I opened my office I had to look for inspiration for decor, and what better place to that than my "domino" book which I love. Back then (right now my taste has changed a lot) I wanted something elegant, sophisticated and very feminine with a touch of vintage. I wanted people to see I was a professional. After looking at dozens of beautiful images I finally found this one:

This image was the source of inspiration for absolutely everything, my office, website, website photos, logo, brand image, everything. It's funny because now I have to do it all over again and completely different from what I did back then. Soon you'll see the results.

This is perhaps my favorite picture, taken by talented Guatemalan photographer Clara De Tezanos, better known as Mamu. Mamu doesn't shoot portrait anymore so I was very lucky to have her take mines. Now I'm searching for another photographer and I'm having a hard time deciding.

BUSINESS CARD FRONT

BUSINESS CARD BACK

All my branding was designed by my best friend Kika Garcés. She's the best graphic designer out there. She did my business cards, letter heads, envelopes, everything. She's designing my new website and brand image and it's coming out amazing. I can't wait to show you.

Et voilá!!! My office!!!

It was so cute I  couldn't stop looking at it. I had so many good plans for it. It doesn't really matter, some day soon I'll have a space of my own again, only this time I have veeery different plans as to where I'm gonna open it. There was a lot of history in that office. The big chair was my grandfathers, the desk was my fathers, the chandelier belonged to my grandmother, and there where also lots of little details not shown in this picture and everything belonged to someone I loved and don't have with me anymore.

Today I feel like creating an outfit inspired in that image that started it all. So here it is, I hope you like it.

This outfit is perfect for a woman with a classic style personality who needs to feel comfortable during the day but also wants to look city chic and elegant. Its absolutely appropriate for work if you don't have a strict dress code to follow, morning brunch, afternoon tea or just looking chic while running errands.

Have a good day everyone and until next!!!

(OUTFIT OF THE DAY) YELLOW SKINNY JEANS

How exciting was to find out I had a pair of  AG lemon-yellow (more like easter yellow) skinny jeans!!! Now that this colors are so in I don't have to go and spend my money in yet another pair of color jeans (who am I kidding, of course I'm gonna go spend my money in another pair). I have to confess something to you, don't tell anyone. I bought this jeans in 2009 so that means proooobably back in the days I my ass was a bit smaller in scale. Soooo this morning when I decided to try them on of course I was a bit scared that I wasn't gonna fit in them. I have to admit that I did struggle a bit but I succeeded lol!!! Sooo the question to my answer would be...YES!!! My ass is plumpy-er. The good news is I still fit in my yellow skinny jeans (not that having a plumpy behind is bad news).

Never mind my hideous hair. Once again it has been possessed by evil powers and it has acquired a life of it's own. Maybe in a far away future I'll come to terms with it, meanwhile I think I'm just gonna cut it a liiiiitle bit more ahhhhh I'm addicted.

By the way, today we had a little earthquake here in Guatemala. There was a much stronger earthquake in Mexico and we felt it here. I live in a 17th floor so you must imagine how that feels. I was in the bathroom putting on mascara when I felt it. I thought I was still drunk from yesterday. Oh.. wait...yesterday was Monday! My bad!

Toodles!!!

(HOW TO WEAR) STRIPPED PENCIL SKIRT

The answer to your question would be...NO hahaha not everyone can wear a horizontal stripped pencil skirt. I most definitely can't because I have a pretty round behind, I'm at least 2 sizes bigger on my lower half than my upper half. So no, if you're really curvy or petite chances are you are not going to look fabulous with this skirt. However... this blog is for everyone, cylinder (top model looking) figures do exist and one must think of them too.  One day I saw my friend Catherine (she's a TV presenter) wearing a skirt just like this one and she looked fantastic. Of course Catherine is 5"9 and has a cylinder figure with a small round booty. So yesterday, while I was searching the internet for inspiration I found this skirt that I love even though I know I'll never be able to wear it, and decided to make a post about it. So enjoy!

Since summer is just around the corner I thought one amazing way to wear a skirt like this would be by mixing it up with bright colorful tops in soft fabrics like jersey or silk or even with a vintage cotton t-shirt like the one's you find at J.Crew.  With all the wonderful colors out there right now you can create endless looks for your stripped pencil skirt just by adding the right accessories. Here's proof.

My personal favorite.

Don't you just love that clutch? It screams SUMMER!!!

A little matchy matchy but some women love that.
